Man rescued from boat crash near Fire Island Pines Marina

|

Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers rescued a man who was ejected from his boat on Wednesday night.

Michael Greene, 34, was driving his 25-foot Grady-White boat when he reportedly suffered a medical emergency and crashed into the Fire Island Pines bulkhead.

Immediately following the collision, a good Samaritan jumped into the water and kept Greene afloat until officers Joseph Riviello and Anton Fanelli arrived on the scene.

Riviello and Fanelli went into the water and delivered first aid to Greene.

When he saw Greene’s boat traveling in circles, a third Marine Bureau officer, Richard Berni, jumped from Marine Kilo to the unoccupied vessel, switched it into neutral, and made it back onto the Marine Kilo before the Grady-White capsized.

Greene was taken to Timber Point Marina, transferred to a Suffolk County Police Aviation Section helicopter, and flown to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
