Nearly 400 donors have stepped up for the Cestras after a blaze destroyed their home this month
A Massapequa family lost everything in a house fire over the July 4 weekend, and their neighbors are responding in force.
An early morning blaze on Friday destroyed the Cestra family’s home, according to a GoFundMe launched by Brooke Eversman. The family made it out safely, but the blaze left them basically starting over from scratch.
1010 WINS reported that the family’s 3-year-old Australian Shepherd, Rocky, saved their lives by alerting them to the fire with aggressive barking .
“The Cestras are a beloved Massapequa family who have always been a caring and valued part of our community. Now, they need our support more than ever,” Eversman wrote on the fundraising page. “While we are incredibly grateful that they are safe, they are now faced with the overwhelming task of rebuilding their lives from the ground up.”
Titled “Standing with the Cestra family after house fire,” the fundraising effort seeks $40,000 to cover clothing, household items and temporary living expenses while the family rebuilds. As of this week, it had collected more than $39,000 from just shy of 400 donors.
