Massapequa Coast’s magical run toward Little League glory this summer ended on Monday.
The Long Island Boys, who are New York and Metro division Little League champs, lost to Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, 7-1, in South Williamsport and were eliminated from the Little League World Series.
Massapequa took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Ryan Huksloot scored on a Hollidaysburg fielding error. But Pennsylvania squad scored three in the top of the third inning, and never looked back.
Originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, rain forced the game to be postponed until today at 11 a.m. On Friday, Massapequa lost 12-0 to Honolulu in the double-elimination tournament.
The Long Island team earned its first-ever berth in the international tournament by knocking off Toms River, New Jersey, earlier this month in the Metro division final.
