Massapequa Coast is just one win away from the Little League World Series

|

Massapequa Coast put up seven runs in the first inning and never looked back Monday in its 10-1 win over New Jersey in Little League Baseball’s Metro Region Tournament.

The convincing victory — the 12U team’s second 10-1 win in its two games in the tournament — puts the New York champs just one win away from reaching the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, the first pitch in Massapequa Coast’s game with Wast Hanover, New Jersey, wasn’t thrown until 7:08 p.m. due to rainy weather this afternoon in Bristol, Connecticut.

Twelve-year-old pitcher Matteo Pipia got the win for Massapequa Coast. He knocked in a run and scored in the first inning when Massapequa Coast sent 13 batters to the plate to take a commanding early lead.

Massapequa Coast will play in the Metro Region championship on Friday against the winner of Wednesday’s game between New Jersey and Rhode Island.

The title game starts at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN.

Massapequa Coast is looking to make its second consecutive trip to the Little League World Series.
