Mastic Beach man shot in leg in dispute outside Neighborhood Road gas station, cops say

A homeless man shot another man in the leg during a dispute outside a gas station early Sunday in Mastic Beach, cops said.

Sammie Darby, 48, got into a verbal argument with the victim inside the Track Gas Station market at 310 Neighborhood Road about 1:18 a.m., police said.

After employees asked the two men to leave, the dispute continued outside, where police said Darby opened fire and shot the victim in the leg.

Suffolk Police took the 29-year-old victim to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers arrested Darby a shortly later and charged him with second-degree assault. He will be held Sunday at Suffolk Police’s Sixth Precinct and is due to be arraigned at Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
