Mastic woman breaks probation after pitbull mauling, gets 8 months behind bars

At least she didn’t get another dog.

But that’s about all Amy Willi managed to comply with under the terms of her three-year probation sentence, authorities said. The Mastic woman, whose pitbull mauled a 2-year-old boy and bit his uncle in 2023, ignored just about every other condition of her probation.

And for that, she’s heading to jail for eight months.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced Willi, 48, was sentenced Wednesday by Acting County Court Judge F. Scott Carrigan after admitting in court that she violated the terms of her three-year probation sentence.

Willi pleaded guilty in September 2024 to second-degree reckless endangerment after her male pitbull, Kojo, attacked the toddler and his uncle in March 2023.

“This defendant’s repeated disregard for court orders, the rule of law and public safety is unacceptable,” Tierney said. Willi, he said, failed to comply with virtually every term of her probation — which included 320 hours of community service, regular probation check-ins, no alcohol or narcotics and mandatory treatment — after recklessly unleashing a violent dog on a toddler and his uncle.

Kojo bolted outside and charged the child. The boy’s uncle scooped up his nephew to shield him — but the dog bit down on the uncle’s left forearm, knocking the toddler to the ground.

Kojo then went after the boy directly, biting him repeatedly on his face, head and body, leaving the toddler with lacerations to his right eye, cheek, scalp and leg. The mauling only stopped when family members rushed outside and forced the dog to release the child.

The boy was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated with stitches.

Willi admitted to investigators she knew Kojo had violent tendencies before the attack, prosecutors said. The dog was later abandoned and dumped at a local shelter, where he attacked a staff member. He was ultimately euthanized.

She kept the animal ban, but ignored almost everything else, prosecutors said, though without providing specifics. The Suffolk County Department of Probation filed a violation action, and Willi was arraigned and remanded in April 2026.

She admitted to the violation Aug. 26. Judge Carrigan handed down the eight-month sentence on the spot.
