Michigan man tased, pepper-sprayed after attacking woman and Nassau cops

|

Nassau police needed to subdue a Michigan man with a Taser and pepper spray Sunday night in Elmont after he assaulted a woman and then turned violent with cops, police said.

Detectives said officers from the Fifth Squad responded about 9:30 p.m. to a home on Norfeld Boulevard for reports of a disturbance. Police officers learned that James Nelson, 59, of Pontiac, Michigan, had gotten into a verbal argument with a 59-year-old woman that escalated into a physical attack.

Police said Nelson struck the woman multiple times in the face and head with a closed fist and damaged her television during the altercation.

Nelson became combative when officers arrived, injuring two cops during a struggle, police said. Officers needed to deploy a taser and pepper spray to bring the man under control and arrest him.

The victim, Nelson, and the two injured officers were treated at nearby hospitals and released.

Nelson is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
