‘Mini-Miracle on Main Street’ set for Nov. 28 in Sayville

|

In a year when all we need is a miracle, Sayville will do its best to make it happen.

“Mini-Miracle on Main Street,” Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce’s scaled back version of the community’s time-honored tradition, “Miracle on Main Street,” is Saturday, Nov. 28, in Sayville and West Sayville.

The daylong event includes the old-time favorite Gingerbread Competition, along with Winter Wonderland, Shop Small Saturday, trolley rides and socially distanced visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus. All Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines will be followed, and masks must be worn by every visitor.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening at the festive event:

Winter Wonderland Shop Small Saturday

From 11 a.m.-4 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to ride the Sayville Chamber Trolley through the downtowns of Sayville and West Sayville.

The trolley — which will take pandemic-related precautions and limit the number of riders — will make stops along Main Street, South Main and Railroad Avenue. Trolley riders will be treated to holiday music, trolley stop special cards, and free candy canes and magic reindeer food.

Stores, shops and restaurants will be offering specials throughout the day and evening.

“This year, more than ever, Shop Small Saturday is important to our small business community, Main Street and our entire town,” Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Tyznar said. “Although it will not be the event is has been the last 13 years, we wanted to provide a small bit of hope and cheer — a mini-miracle of sorts.”

Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus

The Clauses are bringing the North Pole to the Sayville Chamber House on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Main Street in the Stop & Shop shopping plaza. Visits with Santa and his lovely bride are by appointment only and limited to one per family.

Appointments are also available on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Hammer & Stain, the do-it-yourself workshop on Main Street in Sayville, will be at Santa’s North Pole on Nov. 28, selling Take @ Make craft kits and offering holiday specials.

Gingerbread Competition

Entries for the Gingerbread Competition will be registered in the tent in the alcove next to Ooh la la Boutique, at 116 Main St. The entries will remain on display from noon to 6 p.m.

Judging of the entries will occur between 4-5 p.m., with the announcement of first-, second- and third-prize winners taking place at 5:30 p.m.

Tyznar stressed that there will be no exceptions for wearing a mask and that all of the shops and restaurants will be taking the necessary precautions to guard against the spread of COVID-19.

“We know this has been hard on our stores and restaurants, as well as the community,” she said. “We encourage everyone to shop safely with all of the appropriate precautions.

“The business owners have always been there for us,” she continued. “Now, it is time to show them our West Sayville and Sayville love in return.”

A rain date for the entire event is set for Sunday, Nov. 29.
