A mother and son died and an elderly man was injured in a house fire Sunday afternoon in St. James, Suffolk County Police said.
The victims were identified by police as Christine Lehmann, 52, and her son Nicholas Lehmann, 25. Their bodies were located inside the two-story home at 178 Fifty Acre Road South.
Homeowner Ronald Montagna, 91, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and burns he sufferend in the fire, which broke out shortly after 3 p.m.
The St. James Fire Department, assisted by multiple departments, extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to be non-criminal at this time, police said.
