The Long Beach Fire Department and Long Beach Lifeguard Patrol teamed up Wednesday night to make several water rescues across multiple locations after lifeguards had gone off duty.
According to officials, five separate incidents occurred between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., many involving swimmers caught in dangerous rip currents.
The first call came in just before 6:15 p.m. near the boardwalk at Laurelton Boulevard, where three people were pulled from the ocean.

Roughly 20 minutes later, a person had to be rescued after falling off a Jet Ski at Atlantic Boulevard in Atlantic Beach.
Then, around 7 p.m., two more swimmers were pulled from the ocean at Monroe Boulevard. One of the victims was transported to the emergency room in stable condition.
At 7:30 p.m., a kayaker in distress was reported near Maryland Avenue and Reynolds Channel. Rescue crews were able to safely bring the individual to a nearby dock.
The final incident happened just before 8 p.m. at Monroe Boulevard, where multiple swimmers were again caught in the surf. Firefighters used jet skis to pull them from the water.
