Three Nassau districts rank in the national top 10

Three Nassau County school districts — Roslyn, Syosset and Jericho — rank among the national top 10, according to Niche’s 2027 Best School Districts rankings, released Monday.

The Roslyn Union Free School District ranks No. 2 in America, making it the highest-ranked district in Nassau and the best in New York.

Roslyn climbed one spot from last year’s No. 3, swapped places with Syosset, which was No. 2 in the nation last year and is now No. 3.

Jericho jumped from No. 10 to No. 7 on Niche‘s top districts list.

Glenbrook High School District 225 in Illinois was the one district in the United States that beat Roslyn.

Nassau’s top 10 comprises the same 10 districts as last year, albeit a tad reshuffled. Each of the 10 districts hold spots in the national top 100, and seven are in the top 50.

Hewlett-Woodmere, up from No. 34 to No. 21 nationally, and Herricks, from No. 40 to No. 24, saw the biggest improvements. Manhasset inched up from No. 21 to No. 19.

Great Neck took the hardest fall, sliding from No. 20 to No. 54. East Williston dropped from No. 26 to No. 51.

Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District held the 10th spot at No. 63, up from No. 67.

The Sewanhaka Central High School District nearly doubled its standing, climbing from No. 711 to No. 369. Valley Stream Central High School District rose from No. 720 to No. 390.

Rockville Centre went the other way, falling from No. 476 to No. 902.

Four Nassau districts joined the national list this year: Wantagh (No. 689), Carle Place (No. 794), Baldwin (No. 865) and Mineola (No. 886). In all, 31 Nassau districts made Niche’s national top 1,000, up from 27.

Niche builds its rankings from federal and state data, school-reported statistics and million of reviews from students, parents and teachers. This year, public school test proficiency data comes from state-level sources rather than federal ones.

2. Syosset Central School District

National rank: No. 3 (2026: No. 2). New York rank: No. 2.

3. Jericho Union Free School District

National rank: No. 7 (2026: No. 10). New York rank: No. 4.

4. Manhasset Union Free School District

National rank: No. 19 (2026: No. 21). New York rank: No. 5.

5. Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District

National rank: No. 21 (2026: No. 34). New York rank: No. 6.

6. Herricks Union Free School District

National rank: No. 24 (2026: No. 40). New York rank: No. 7.

7. Bethpage Union Free School District

National rank: No. 30 (2026: No. 29). New York rank: No. 8.

8. East Williston Union Free School District

National rank: No. 51 (2026: No. 26). New York rank: No. 10.

9. Great Neck Public Schools

National rank: No. 54 (2026: No. 20). New York rank: No. 11.

10. Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District
