Natural Hounds expands to Huntington with fresh, real food for your dog

|

Natural Hounds isn’t your average pet store.

It’s a human-grade dog food kitchen, where real people prepare fresh, healthy meals — like home cooking for your dog, but done professionally.

Located right here on Long Island, everything is made by hand using the same meats and vegetables you’d eat yourself.

“We’re not a subscription box,” said co-owner Rick Orlandi. “We’re a local kitchen making real human-grade food for dogs — no fillers, no preservatives, just honest ingredients.”

If you’ve looked into fresh dog food subscriptions, this is the same quality — just more affordable, more flexible, and made locally instead of shipped across the country.

Orlandi and his business partner Conor Wooley started the company with a simple mission: help dogs live longer, healthier lives by feeding them better — and make high-quality, fresh food affordable and accessible for all dog owners.

Today, they’re doing just that from three locations in Babylon, Port Jefferson, and now Huntington.

Everything is made by hand in small batches using human-grade ingredients — chicken, beef, turkey, veggies, and healthy oils. No byproducts, no fillers, and no weird stuff.

Just whole food, gently cooked and packed fresh.

When you visit a Natural Hounds location, you’re invited to bring your pup, try a $5 sampler, and chat with the team about what food would work best. There’s no subscription required and no pressure to commit.

“Some people stop in just to grab a few meals for the week,” said Orlandi. “Others buy 200 pounds at a time. It’s totally flexible.”

The staff will help recommend what recipe will work for your pup and also how much to feed based on breed, weight, and age. And while you’re there, your dog can try some of their single-ingredient jerky treats or small-batch biscuits — all made in-house.

No subscription needed

Unlike national brands, Natural Hounds doesn’t ship food across the country.

And that’s intentional.

“We’re offering the same high-quality food, but at a much more affordable price because we don’t deal with heavy insulation, dry ice, or shipping,” Orlandi previously told Greater Long Island.

“Our customers also get to see the food being made and meet the people who make it.”

Natural Hounds meals start at just $4.83 per pound, with prices varying based on quantity. You can walk in and buy as little as one pound or stock up for the entire month. Delivery is also available across Long Island — from Montauk to Mineola and everywhere in between.

Making the switch

Natural Hounds says the proof is in the bowl. Picky eaters love it. Owners report improvements in energy, digestion, coat, and overall well-being.

“Some customers come in because their dog stopped eating other food altogether,” Orlandi said. “Once they try this, they’re shocked at how fast it gets devoured.”

Each recipe can also be customized for dietary needs — perfect for dogs with sensitivities or allergies.

Try it for $5

If you’re curious, just stop by any location and grab a $5 sampler to start. You’ll get to see the kitchen, ask questions, and let your dog taste it for themselves.

“We’re all about transparency and doing what’s right for the dogs,” said Orlandi. “We want people to feel confident about what’s going in their dog’s bowl.”
