A new Netflix film involving the Gilgo Beach murders is filming on Long Island, according to reports.

The movie, which began shooting in Southhold this week, will be called “Lost Girls.” It is based on the non-fiction book with the same title by Robert Kolker.

“It has the right look,” the movie’s producer, Anne Carey, told The Suffolk Times of Southold. “This community opened itself up to us to shoot here, so we came here.”

The Suffolk Times is reporting the story follows the mother of Shannon Gilbert, a woman who was believed to be murdered by the Long Island Serial Killer.

Shannan’s mother, Mari Gilbert, will be played by Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan of “Gone Baby Gone” and “The Office.”

The film is being directed by Liz Garbus, whose most recent work includes “The Fourth Estate,” a documentary of the The New York Times coverage of President Trump’s first year in office.
