New splash pad play area slated for Patchogue pool in summer of 2023

|

Patchogue Village Trustee Joseph Keyes wants designs for a new summer play space for Patchogue’s children.

The Board of Trustees approved Keyes’ request last month to authorize Rimkunas Engineering to design a splash pad at the Pool and Beach Club on Maiden Lane.

The board approved services from the Huntington-based firm with costs to not exceed $63,650.

For the unfamiliar, a splash pad is essentially an interactive fountain where children socialize, play and cool off in a safe public space under the summer sun.

“I think this is going to be a real exciting addition to the beach club and to the village itself,” Keyes said during the board meeting.

Conceptual designs place the fenced-in splash pad between the pool and Maiden Lane. It calls for two shaded areas at opposite ends of the pad.

The pad will have two sets of play features, which will be set at different heights to accommodate all children, from toddlers stages to preteens.

“It’ll have one end for the younger ones and one end for the bigger kids,” Keyes told greaterpatchogue.com.

In the coming weeks, Keyes will meet with the engineer, he said. The trustee hopes the splash pad will open for the summer of 2023.
