NY Burger Shack sets launch date for new storefront in Medford

|

New York Burger Shack has announced the opening date for its new brick-and-mortar location in Medford.

The popular food truck, which debuted in January along New York State Route 112 in Medford, is moving into a steps-away storefront, with a planned opening for this Friday, Nov. 22.

“Weโ€™re incredibly proud of our brand and the delicious burger items weโ€™ve created, and we canโ€™t wait to share them with you,” the ownership team wrote on Instagram. “Our team, partners, family, and friends have been instrumental in making this dream a reality, and weโ€™re grateful for their support.”

The new location is atย 2080-1 Route 112.

โ€œThat was always really the goal of ours, to have a storefront,โ€ said Kaly Alzate, the chef and part-owner of New York Burger Shack. โ€œThe truck was to get our feet wet, to get the menu down, to let the people know who we are.โ€

The shift into a brick-and-mortar location down the block โ€” โ€œWeโ€™re literally moving 30 seconds away,โ€ Alzate said โ€” will bring an expanded menu that is going to include milkshakes in 12 flavors.

โ€œTheyโ€™re all ready to go full throttle on this,โ€ Alzate said of business partners, Jay Donovan and Mike Torres. โ€œIt was now or never and weโ€™re just betting on it.โ€

The food truck remains stationed at 2215 New York State Route 112, but was rebranded as New York Taco Truck.

โ€œYou can never go wrong with tacos,โ€ said Alzate, who studied at the Institute of Culinary Education in Manhattan before going to work on Long Island.

The truck offers seven variations on its namesake dish, including steak, chicken, birria and veggie tacos, along with burritos and quesadillas. Among the side dishes are empanadas, sweet plantains, rice and beans.

Alazate, who grew up in Bay Shore, said the changes came as a surprise to customers.

โ€œPeople came in looking for burgers and were like, โ€˜Ohhh,โ€™โ€ she said. โ€œBut a lot of them, especially those who have been with us since the start, they understand weโ€™re doing something new and they are excited to come check us out.โ€

Alzate said the expanded menu at the burger joint will offer new items that extend beyond milk shakes and patrons will be able to dine in.

โ€œNow we have a restaurant and thereโ€™s a lot more food involved, there are employees,โ€ she said. โ€œItโ€™s a whole different challenge.โ€

But Alzate said diners can still count on the fan favorite burgers from the food truckโ€™s earlier incarnation, including the All-American (two beef patties, thick-cut bacon, American cheese, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles) and the Backyard Barbecue (beef patty with cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles).

โ€œWe canโ€™t wait to get going,โ€ she said.
