Paper Doll Curiosity Shoppe in Patchogue to close after 9-year run

|

The owner of Paper Doll Curiosity Shoppe in Patchogue announced Monday that she will be closing the Main Street store after nearly nine years in business.

Dominique Maciejka, who reopened her Paper Doll Vintage Boutique in Sayville in an August following a devastating fire a year ago, shared the news in a Facebook post.

“It’s with a heavy heart, but hope of a brighter future, that I’m going to be closing Paper Doll Curiosity Shoppe,” she wrote. “It’s been a 9-year run, and I want to thank everyone for the support and memories there.”

Maciejka said the fire last October that destroyed her Sayville location pushed her into “financial ruin,” which ultimately led to her decision to shutter the Patchogue shop at 33 E. Main Street, next to The Amazing Olive.

“I had high hopes of running fun classes and workshops at the Patchogue store, but then the fire happened and all my time, energy and capital had to go into dealing with that and working side gigs to pay bills,” she said, adding that the fallout left her with little time for family, friends and the Patchogue store.

Maciejka expects to be out of the Patchogue location by Dec. 1 and will be holding closing sales in the coming weeks, including store fixtures and vintage merchandise.

During the holiday season last year, Maciejka said, she was unable to buy merchandise ahead of Christmas, which caused sales to collapse. She tried repurposing the shop as a thrift store with donated goods, but said it “could not” survive in that form.

Despite the closure, Maciejka stressed that Paper Doll Vintage Boutique in Sayville remains her focus.

“Paper Doll Vintage Boutique is the OG, my passion, vintage isn’t going anywhere, and my future in vintage is limitless,” she wrote. “Sayville has always been a shopping town … and I don’t see having the same clientele [in Patchogue] after 9 years.”

Maciejka said she plans to expand offerings at the Sayville store, including vintage movie nights in collaboration with the Sayville Movie Theater, holiday photo events, and increased opportunities for styling, personal shopping and vending beyond Long Island.

“It’s the end of an era, in so many ways,” she said. “The hardest part about closing is leaving the community this shop has created, and the safe space it provided, but this too, will live on through Paper Doll Vintage Boutique.”
