A new business is coming to downtown Patchogue this March and its aim is to be a one-stop-shop for its neighbors.
“It’s going to be good for everybody,” said James Diele-Stein, co-owner of the soon-to-be-open Patch Print, Ship & More. “There’s something that we’re going to offer to everyone.”
Along with his husband, Ron, the pair lives just down the road and is frequent customers of the food and drink downtown. Along with their other business endeavor, Funky Entertainment, the duo started to network with other local owners in the chamber of commerce and began to brainstorm “what does the village need?”
That’s when they came up with this concept.
Focusing on stamps, shipping, printing, promotional items, key duplicating, laminating and P.O. box rentals, the shop’s goal is to accommodate anyone who walks in the door — even having a notary on-site.
“We want to offer a variety of services,” said Diele-Stein. “We want people to feel like they can come to us. We’re not looking to outshine any other business — we want to work with them.”
The idea came to them in September and they worked effortlessly to find a space that would be the perfect fit. And right around Thanksgiving, they decided on the old Wallen’s Market at 83 South Ocean Avenue.
“Main Street is awesome, but we needed something that’s a little more off the beaten path,” Diele-Stein told GreaterPatchogue. “But it’s still off Main Street where people can freely park to drop off what they need — it’s convenient… I knew right away, it’s a perfect layout for the store and I got really good vibes.”
And although there are other shops around that offer similar services, Diele-Stein said that this is going to be a staple to people in the community.
“Printing and shipping, there’s a need for it and we want to make sure that we’re taking care of our village,” he said. “It may not be completely different, but it’s different for the village.”
The couple’s love for Patchogue will show once customers walk into the new space, that’s currently being worked on the inside. They plan on having a “Touch of Patchogue” area with local items complete with olive oils, soaps and apparel from the nearby breweries and restaurants.
Another feature that they’re excited about is to work with local photographers by hanging their work for purchase in a mini gallery, along with printing them on postcards for sale.
Down the line, they plan on teaming up with the Patchogue-Medford School District to hold a contest, allowing students to showcase their own artwork to be featured on a postcard, as well.
“I want students to feel like they come into our store and to be excited,” he said. “Something that small could change their lives forever.”
Patch Print, Ship is planning on a March 1 opening and the owners are excited to bring their services to the area.
“There’s not a lot of retail or services like this in the village,” he added. “There are a lot of restaurants, which is great, but with us, we can help those restaurants if they need business cards or placemats or brochures or signage… Let’s see what we can do for you.”
