The dance will have to wait.
Thunderstorms expected to blanket the area later this afternoon and evening have forced the postponement of Patchogue-Medford High School’s senior prom tonight in downtown Patchogue, officials said.
The event will instead take place on Tuesday, June 13, running exactly the same as it would have on Monday.
This means that there will be no road closures on Main Street on Monday. Here are the road closures that will happen on Tuesday to clear the way fro the prom.
• The Village will be close off the western side of the Oak Street parking lot at 5 p.m. This will be a staging and drop-off area for parents and students.
• East Main Street, between Maple Avenue and Ocean Avenue will close to parking and traffic at 2 p.m. and remain closed until midnight to allow for set up and breakdown of the event.
The prom starts at 6 p.m. and will last until 11 p.m.
Village officials are encouraging businesses in the downtown area, particularly on East Main Street between Maple Avenue and Ocean Avenue, to consider close after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13. School and village officials are hoping to limit non-prom pedestrian traffic as much as possible, in order to give the students an exclusive prom experience.
Prom security will escort non-pedestrian traffic on East Main Street between Ocean Ave and Maple Ave to their desired destinations in an effort to prevent loitering around the area designated for the prom, village officials said.
