NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has officially been verified as a Level II Adult Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), meaning the hospital can now treat all adult trauma patients, no matter how serious, hospital officials said.

The upgrade marks a major expansion of emergency services for the Patchogue hospital (formerly Brookhaven Hospital), reducing the need for critically injured residents to travel long distances for care, said Dr. Marc S. Adler, senior vice president and chief of hospital operations.

“This milestone recognizes the dedication of our staff and affirms our enhanced capabilities to deliver the full spectrum of adult trauma care to our patients,” he said. “Community members and our local EMS partners can feel confident knowing the highest-quality emergency care is available nearby when it’s needed most.”

Level II Trauma Centers must maintain 24/7 access to a wide range of specialists, including general, orthopedic and neurosurgeons, as well as radiologists and urologists. They also run community-focused programs, such as Stop the Bleed and senior falls prevention, and maintain a comprehensive quality assessment program.

The hospital’s journey to Level II began in April 2024 with an application to the ACS and New York State Department of Health. By October 2024, it earned Provisional Level II status, and in July 2025, a full ACS review confirmed the designation.
