Patsy’s Pizzeria plans get approved for South Ocean in Patchogue

|

A coal-fired pizzeria with known historic roots is on its way to Patchogue Village.

Patsy’s Pizzeria — the original location of which was founded in East Harlem in 1933 — will be opening its newest venture at 39 South Ocean Avenue.

Patsy’s gained its fame from being among the first pizzerias in the U.S. to sell coal-fired slices. It was a popular a hangout spot for famed-singers like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett.

Sinatra even had the pizza shipped to himself in L.A.

Over the years, as Patsy’s grew and expanded, they stopped selling individual slices in its new restaurants in favor of a dining experience.

In addition to selling pies, Patsy’s has a wide-ranging menu that includes different Italian classics, from pasta to meats and seafood dishes.

That is what the people of Patchogue will be getting.

“This a family oriented, sit-down restaurant,” said Victor Dedaj, a spokesperson for the Patchogue location.

What will be a two-story Italian restaurant had its plans approved by the Patchogue Village Planning Board on Tuesday.

Patsy’s ownership will be renovating the 2,700-foot space next to the James Joyce Irish pub. There will be about 80 seats altogether, with the upstairs being available to use for large parties.

“Patchogue is a very welcoming town,” said Dedaj, when asked why he chose the village. “It is very quaint and fits our community model.”

Ena Singh, the owner of the South Ocean location, is shooting for a September opening.
