Scenes from Massapequa for the Little League Softball World Series champs

The girls from Massapequa Park who won the 2023 Little League Softball World Series were celebrated in their hometown on Monday.

The event — co-hosted by the Village of Massapequa Park, the Town of Oyster Bay, and Nassau County— featured a parade through town and a celebration at Village Hall.

The team etched their names in the record books back on Aug. 13 after defeating North Carolina, 5-1, in the finals to become the first New York team to win the title.

“That doesn’t happen on accident,” said Richard Eaton, head coach of the Massapequa International 12-and-under girls’ team, at the celebration. “I’m the manager, and it’s an honor, but this team had 16 people, including coaches and players that had a job to do — and every single person did that job.”
