Police ask for help ID’ing skeletal remains found last year in Babylon

|

He was between the ages of 25 and 40 years old.

And he had likely died about two years before his skeletal remains were found on Feb. 15, 2023, in Babylon’s Southards Park. Suffolk Police are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the body. And they have released a composite sketch.

Here’s what happened last year, according to police:

At around 1 p.m. on Feb. 15, a 911 caller reported finding skeletal remains in a wooded area of Southards Pond Park, south of Sunrise Highway.

Police were called to the scene and after an investigation by the county’s Homicide Squad detectives, the cause of death was determined to be non-criminal in nature.

Then, apparently, the clues ran dry.

But what police know is the man was determined to be Black in race, and he was wearing a black jacket with “Nike Running” emblazoned on the sleeve, along with black pants and black and white basketball sneakers. He was also wearing a gray running hat.

It is still under investigation whether a backpack located near the body belonged to the man.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the identity of this man to call Homicide Squad detectives at 631-852-6392. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
