Police, EMS team up to rescue injured egret in West Babylon

|

Suffolk County first responders shot into action to save the life of an injured egret in West Babylon on Monday.

A resident spotted the white heron on West Ninth Street limping and unable to fly or walk, says police.

After receiving the 911 alert, First Precinct officer Matthew Garcia, along with emergency service officers Dave Katzen and Keith Charley, were able to secure the bird with a net and transport it a local animal hospital for treatment.

According to police, once the egret is fully healed it will be released back into the wild.
