Popular LI burrito joint coming to Patchogue with a drive-thru

|

Goodbye burgers and fries, hello meaty burritos!

Tuesday evening, the Patchogue Planning Board approved a new Burrito Mariachi Mexican Grill to serve Mexican cuisine at 272 E. Main Street, the site of the old Checkers adjacent to 7-Eleven and Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

The family-owned restaurant offers a wide array of Mexican food, from tacos to quesadillas and nachos to enchiladas. The upcoming menu will also boast signature burritos, including the Buffalo Jack chicken burrito, the Lazy Mike with chicken or steak and the Queen Bee shrimp burrito.

As members of the board noted during Tuesday’s meeting, the drive-thru and parking plans have been approved when Checkers moved into the space and the new restaurant’s site plans do not call for any changes to either feature.

The restaurant will feature the same indoor seating arrangement and drive-thru setup as Checkers. Yi Xing Liu, the owner-operator of the forthcoming establishment, quelled the board’s concerns about drive-thru times for Mexican cuisine versus a traditional fast-food establishment. He said the new drive-thru, a first for the chain, will be just as quick and efficient as the vanished fast-food establishment.

In addition to new signage, which the Architectural Advisory Board approved Tuesday evening, a representative of the Burrito Mariachi Mexican Grill told the Planning Board the company is looking to repaint the establishment and update the recessed lighting. The renovations will cost $10,000 according to the building permit application submitted to the village a few weeks ago.

The Planning Board unanimously approved the new restaurant, but requested the Mexican grill submit a refuse maintenance plan to the board for approval.

This Patchogue location marks the fourth Burrito Mariachi Mexican Grill. The other three are located in Wantagh, Massapequa and Farmingdale.

It was unclear at the time of the Planning Board meeting when the new burrito joint aims to open in Patchogue. Check back with greaterpatchogue.com for Burrito Mariachi Mexican Grill updates.
