Port Jefferson Village near the train station is seeing some major infrastructure improvements through an initiative called “Uptown Funk.”
Port Jeff Village Mayor Margot Garant released a video (shown above) detailing the plans for a new parking lot on Texaco Road, as well as updates at the Long Island Rail Road station.
The Texaco Parking Lot, which sits alongside The Hills new apartments, will be transformed into a metered parking lot for residents.
“We are going to convert this barren land into a beautiful, lighted, safe metered parking lot,” Garant says in the video.
Also there are hefty upgrades in the works for the train station just east of Route 112.
According to the village, some of the new additions include a new gateway, promenade, buildings, and updated signage.
Uptown Funk comes as a collaborative project between the village, private sector, and the MTA. Suffolk County has also helped with a Jumpstart grant.
“We have millions of dollars now coming into this area to help us redevelop,” said Garant.
She said many of the improvements will be coming in the first quarter of 2018.
“Help is on its way,” she says in the video.
