Port Jeff salon owner glammed up the models at Hamptons Fashion Week

|

The beautiful models strutting down Hamptons Fashion Week in Southhampton had Kristine Murillo to thank.

That’s because the Port Jeff hair salon owner was in charge of the hair department for the third annual Hamptons Fashion Week, held this past weekend.

Murillo, who’s worked on 14 shows during New York Fashion Week over the last 5 years, helped run the return of the Hamptons Fashion Week runway show on Saturday as a creative director of hair. She was styling the models for their runway performances.

She describes this year’s show as a “much bigger production” compared to last year’s virtual event. She brought her entire staff from Fedora Lounge Boutique Hair Salon and Hair Replacement Studio to style the hair of around 48 models for the show.

“It’s 100 percent different from last year,” Murillo said backstage before the models took to the runway. “There have been some fun looks and it’s been a creative day — we have to get direction from the designers themselves, they have a look in mind they project to me that I have to project to them and just attack.”

Hamptons Fashion Week, held at the Southampton Arts Center, was a three-day event that featured renowned and local designers, stylists, influencers, celebrity guests, and makeup artists.

The hairstylists used the luxury haircare brand Reza Be Obsessed, created by Reza Farahan of the reality TV series, “Shahs of Sunset,” who remarked how much of “a dream come true” it was to see Murillo and her team work with his products.

There were four fashion designers featured in this year’s show, including Cesar Galindo, Brochu Walker, Culture Trees, and House of Barretti.

The day benefitted the Ellen Hermanson Foundation, a nonprofit that helps provide breast cancer patients with state-of-the-art health care.

Fashion Week creator Fern Mallis, who is deemed the “Godmother of Fashion,” was honored with a Fashion Icon Award.

“This is my happy place, so this is a good fashion week for me,” Mallis said. “I think there’s fashion week every week in the Hamptons, this is one of the chicest communities in the world.”
