Port Jeff senior Max Okst earns Thomas Cutinella Foundation Service Award

|

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Max Okst was recently recognized with the Thomas Cutinella Foundation Service Award for his community service.

Max was honored during a varsity football game halftime ceremony by the Long Island Radio Broadcasting’s Tour For 54, which honors local high school students to help raise awareness for the Thomas Cutinella Foundation.

The foundation is named in memory of Thomas Cutinella, a community service-minded teenager who died while playing football for Shoreham-Wading River High School in a game against John Glenn in 2014. The foundation set up in his memory works to inspire and share the fundamental beliefs and values that defined his life.

Max was described by the Port Jeff District as “a well-rounded young man,” and a member of the varsity track team, a student representative to the board of education who’s also involved in the drama club and the district’s Sources of Strength program.

“He has a genuine concern for helping others and is pleased to help promote a lasting legacy for Cutinella,” reads an announcement from the district.
