A Port Jefferson couple was found dead Monday in what police have called a murder-suicide.
Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives said Sixth Precinct officers carried out a request for a welfare check at an Oakwood Road home at 11:07 a.m. after a woman who lived there, 63-year-old Valerie Kopetic, failed to show up for work.
When officers arrived at the home, they discovered two residents dead from gunshot wounds, police said.
Investigators determined that Paul Trefimovich, 68, shot and killed his domestic partner, Kopetic, before turning the gun on himself, police said.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad at 631.852.6392.
