Port Jefferson businesses are joining forces on Wednesday, Dec. 22, to spread some holiday cheer with the village’s first-ever SantaCon.
From 7-10 p.m., the Whiskey Barrel and several other participating bars and restaurants are offering drink specials, giveaways, and more throughout the evening.
“There are some nights in Port Jeff when it gets pretty quiet, and it’s a little concerning those nights when there isn’t anyone around and there isn’t snow on the ground. It’s not cold, it’s just a dead night,” said David Tracy, co-owner of the Whiskey Barrel. “I felt like the bars and restaurants should have their own little thing.”
Tracy first reached out to his neighbor, SpyCoast, with the idea of hosting the event together.
But once the word got out, six more restaurants got on board.
Here is the full list of participating Port Jefferson businesses:
Tickets are not required and folks who want to join in on the fun are encouraged to dress up as Santa, wear an ugly Christmas sweater, or any other festive outfit.
Tracy said Whiskey Barrel will offer free mulled wine and $2 brown sugar bourbon shots. There will also be a as well t-shirt giveaway and other freebies.
The winter months can be slow for Port Jefferson Village businesses, Tracy said, so this Santa Con is all about increasing foot traffic and giving people a reason to bundle up and venture out on a chilly weeknight.
“I’m hoping we get a bunch of people who just want to come out, have food, drinks, and dress up as Santa,” Tracy said. “If it’s a great hit and people love it, we’ll run with it and see if we can make this an annual thing.”
