Patchogue-Medford High School alum Andrew Garcia — a standout student-athlete from the Class of 2015 — is earning high praise for his work as an NYPD officer.
Garcia, who serves in the 102nd Precinct in Queens, was recognized this month by the department with an Excellent Police Duty award.
Longtime Patchogue-Medford baseball coach Anthony Frascogna congratulated his former player publicly, posting on Facebook: “PM HOFer @andrewgarciaa was recognized for his outstanding police work! Congrats Andrew!!”
Garcia is a member of Patchogue-Medford baseball’s Hall of Fame. On the diamond, he dominated both on the mound and at the plate — going 6-2 with a 0.56 ERA in 2015, while leading the Raiders in RBI in 2014 and 2015. He was also an honor roll student and a tight end on a Raider football team that played in the county championship in 2014.
He continued his baseball career at the University of New Haven, where he was a four-year starter at first base.
Public commendations for the Medford native aren’t new.
Last year, NYC Civilian Complaint Review Board member Joe Fox praised him and fellow officer Chris Ganesh for their outreach with local youth. “The smiles, the energy and the caring you see in their faces in this photo, they bring to our youth every day,” Fox wrote. “Thank you for what you do. It matters!”
Garcia’s commitment to service runs in the family — his brother, Louis, is a deputy sheriff with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. And his dad Luis is retired from the NYPD.
