Report: Ross Dress for Less plans first East End location

|

Ross Dress for Less is continuing its nationwide growth — with Long Island playing a key role.

The discount department store opened its first Long Island location in Hempstead this summer, where lines wrapped outside during its opening week. A second store is already underway in Farmingville, inside Expressway Plaza at 2280 North Ocean Ave., next to Skechers and a few doors down from Burlington. Construction is ongoing, with signage indicating the store is “coming soon.” The company is also currently hiring for that location.

And more is on the way.

A recent Newsday report confirmed that Ross is also planning to open a third Long Island location in Riverhead. The store will take over the former TJ Maxx space at 1120 Old Country Road. (TJ Maxx moved last fall to a larger space down the road at 1791 Old Country Road.) The Riverhead Ross is expected to open in 2026.

The Long Island expansion comes as part of a larger nationwide growth strategy. In June and July alone, Ross Stores, Inc. opened 28 Ross Dress for Less and three dd’s DISCOUNTS stores across 16 states and Puerto Rico. According to the company, these openings are part of plans to launch around 90 new stores in fiscal 2025 — including about 80 Ross locations.

“These recent openings reflect our ongoing plans to continue building our presence in both existing and newer markets across our two off-price chains,” said Richard Lietz, Executive Vice President, Property Development. “The summer opening group was particularly exciting with our inaugural opening of three Ross stores in Puerto Rico coupled with the continued expansion into our newer markets of Michigan, Minnesota, and New York.”

Ross Dress for Less is headquartered in Dublin, California, and is the largest off-price apparel and home fashion chain in the country — larger than Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Burlington. It now operates more than 2,200 locations across 44 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
