Rocky Point cheerleading wins school’s fourth-ever national championship

|

The tradition of cheering excellence continues at Rocky Point High School.

Over the weekend, the school’s program won its fourth UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship title.

The tournament, held at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., features several divisions among varsity, junior varsity, youth and recreation teams.

Rocky Point won under the Medium Varsity Division II.

Since 2011, the team has also accumulated two second-place and three third-place victories.

Rocky Point, which has won all five of its competitions this year, was eager to head back to nationals after placing second last year.

“We make difficult stunts look easy,” Rocky Point assistant coach Arianna Scanlon told Newsday prior to the team’s trip to Florida. “The other teams will try to do difficult stunts and may not be able to execute the way that we can.”
