A Rocky Point man faces felony charges in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Shirley that killed one man and critically injured another, Suffolk County police said.
Police arrested Jonathan Shaver, 51, of Rocky Point, on Friday in connection with the Thursday night on William Floy Parkway in Shirley. Police said two men were changing a flat tire on a vehicle parked on the side of the road when they were struck by a passing vehicle that fled the scene.
One of the men, Edgar Mejia, 31, of Mastic Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His brother, Omar Mejia, 29, also of Mastic Beach, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Shaver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a fatality and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury, police said.
Police said detectives have recovered and impounded the vehicle allegedly involved in the crash, a 2012 Honda Accord, police said.
Shaver was held overnight and was scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
