Roosevelt’s Centennial Park welcomes kids back after $5M makeover

|

Centennial Park in Roosevelt is open again — and looking brand new.

The park had been closed for nearly two years for a $5 million makeover.

“We once again have a safe place for the kids to have a good time and play,” Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said after cutting the ceremonial ribbon. “The legendary Dr. J played here when he was growing up in the ’60s and ’70s … and now these kids have the same opportunity in a clean, safe environment.”

The upgrades include a new playground, splash pad, 12 basketball hoops, a turfed mini-soccer field and pickleball and tennis courts.

“To see the smiles on all these kids’ faces makes me so happy,” Roosevelt resident Madison Taylor told Greater Long Island. “This brings back so many memories from when I used to play here as a kid, and it’s great that the next generation gets to do what I used to do.”

The park also features picnic areas, public BBQs and a designated fitness space.

Centennial Park is located at 1 E. Centennial Avenue in Roosevelt.
