Ross Dress for Less opens first Long Island store, draws huge crowds

|

Long Islanders looking for a good bargain seemed to hit the jackpot at the new Ross Dress for Less in Hempstead.

“It’s such an awesome store,” yelled one customer as she walked out with two bags of clothes.

The store, which opened last Friday, marks Ross’s first location on Long Island. It’s located in the Aldi Shopping Center at 320 Peninsula Blvd., right next to fellow discount retailer T.J. Maxx.

“It was pretty crazy inside today,” shopper Shanelle Robbins told Greater Long Island. “I came from Baldwin to check it out because it’s such a great store for this area. The selection was very big.”

Just how busy was it? At one point, over 100 shoppers filled the aisles, with a line wrapping along the side of the building just to get inside. Parking was tough to come by.

For those further east, there’s more good news. As Greater Long Island previously reported in May, Ross is planning another location at Expressway Plaza, 2280 North Ocean Ave. in Farmingville. That plaza, located at the southwest corner of North Ocean Avenue and Horseblock Road, also includes LA Fitness, Stop & Shop, and Burlington. Ross will be opening next to Skechers.

Ross is the largest off-price apparel and home fashion chain in the country, with more than 1,800 stores in 44 states and U.S. territories. The retailer offers brand-name clothing, footwear, home goods and accessories at 20% to 60% off department store prices.

Seniors 55 and older receive an additional 10% off every Tuesday.
