When the RPM Raceway launched its massive renovation project and track upgrade in November 2024, the company wasn’t looking to break any records.
“We didn’t set out to be the world’s longest indoor multi-level electric go-kart track,” said general manager Nicholas Mugavero. “It just worked out that way because of the massive amount of space we have to work with here.”
The Farmingdale entertainment venue officially unveiled its new track layout and high-performance go-karts on April 9.
Dynamic LED lighting lines the three tracks, immediately evoking a sense of speed and exhilaration. The tracks can be configured in six ways and combined to create a 3,600-foot MegaTrack accommodating up to 35 racers.
Longest track
With the upgrade, RPM Raceway blew by all tri-state area competitors, as well as RPM locations in Syracuse, Jersey City and Stamford to become home to the longest multi-level electric go-kart track.
Although the raceway never officially closed during the renovation, the parking lot has been packed every evening since the venue unveiled the giant MegaTrack.
“We have such a great location here, right on the border of Nassau and Suffolk. There are just so many people on Long Island that we can attract,” Mugavero said.
When Greater Long Island visited on a Tuesday night during spring break, lines were long — but moving — and the races didn’t stop.
“It’s spring break right now, so it’s crowded,” Mugavero said. “But really, we haven’t stopped. It’s always busy.”
A family environment
RPM Raceway, which first opened in 2014, hosts private events, including birthday parties for ages 8 and up, as well as corporate events, fundraisers, bachelor parties and other gatherings of 10 or more people.
Surrounding the tracks are the venue’s video games and virtual reality experiences — the “play” in RPM’s “Race Play More” tagline. Guests will also find a snack bar that will soon be upgraded to a full-service bar and grill in phase two of the venue’s renovation.
Employment opportunities
RPM Raceway’s location on Route 110 near Farmingdale State College brings in students ready to race, as well as a stream of eager employees.
“We’ve worked hard to build a positive company culture,” Mugavero said. “A lot of our employees, today, started when they were in college and stayed with us. It’s a great way to start a career. They can move up within our organization or go into restaurant, hospitality or entertainment management.”
League racing
Go-kart racing is not just a spring break diversion. The upgraded SODI electric go-karts are well-suited for league racing. The karts, powered by RPM’s proprietary R-TECH software platform, feature a steering wheel LED that will show real-time analytics including speed.
RPM hosts adult and junior racing leagues, private lessons, and a summer camp.
Many junior racers move onto the professional leagues.
“The RPM upgrade is … not only giving our guests an unmatched entertainment experience, it’s also creating a real pipeline for young talent to sharpen their skills and move into competitive, even professional, racing,” Mugavero said.
