Santa Claus hitching a ride through town with Bay Shore’s Fire Department on Dec. 18

|

Santa Claus is coming to town and the Bay Shore Fire Department is helping Old Saint Nick spread some holiday cheer this month.

On Dec. 18 at 9 a.m, Santa begins his ride through neighborhoods in Bay Shore and Brightwaters.

“We break up into five different sections and each section has one Santa on a fire engine, and we drive around with lights and sirens giving out candy canes to all the kids outside,” said Thomas Komoroski, second assistant chief with the fire department.

Komoroski said Santa can be seen on all major streets in both communities, including Main Street and Union Boulevard.

The only places the fire trucks can not drive down are dead-end roads, Komoroski said, and the fire trucks will not go down the same areas more than once.

The fire department asked that residents please not follow Santa in their vehicles.

The event is expected to wrap up between noon-1 p.m.

“They definitely hit every block in the town,” the fire chief said. “When they hear the sirens, that means Santa is coming … Hopefully, we can spread a little Christmas cheer to all the kids.”
