Savers thrift store opens Dec. 12 at Centereach Square shopping plaza

|

Savers is taking up shop in Centereach Square, the sprawling plaza that houses Walmart and recently bid farewell to a Big Lots location and a Bob’s Stores.

The largest for-profit thrift operator in North America opens its Centereach location on Dec. 12.

[Correection: An earlier version of this report relied upon inaccurate information from Savers regarding the opening date.]

According to Savers, the new space measures nearly 27,000 square feet and “will rival the size and range of a standard retail department store with a diverse assortment of affordable pre-loved clothing, shoes, accessories, housewares and so much more.”

To the uninitiated, here’s how Savers works:

The company purchases secondhand items from nonprofit partners to sell in its retail stores. Savers notes that these partners support at-risk youth, fight diseases and, overall, “create stronger communities.”

The nonprofit partner for the Centereach location is Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.
