A 60-year-old Sayville woman suffered serious injuries Saturday when a vehicle struck her during an early-morning jog on Brook Street and fled the scene, Suffolk Police said.
Michele Walters was jogging on Brook Street, west of Cherry Avenue, at about 5:30 a.m. when she was struck. A 911 caller reported an injured woman lying on the side of the road, and officers arrived at 5:44 a.m.
Walters was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore with serious injuries.
The vehicle that fled the scene is described as a dark-colored SUV that may have sustained front-end and/or front-passenger-side damage. Detectives have identified a vehicle of interest captured on video surveillance on Brook Street.
