A Sayville man is fighting for his life after being hospitalized with severe cardiac issues that could lead to a heart transplant, and the community is stepping up to support him.
A GoFundMe created by family friend Ryan Kennedy reports that 47-year-old Geoff Burke was rushed to the hospital and admitted to the cardiac ICU after doctors diagnosed him with congestive heart failure. His loved ones say the health crisis came without warning.
Burke, described as healthy, active, and full of life before his diagnosis, now faces the possibility of needing a heart transplant within the next year, Kennedy said. His care will require major lifestyle changes and ongoing medical supervision.
The fundraiser notes that even with an application for Medicaid, the costs for hospital stays, medications, specialist visits, and possible transplant-related expenses are already mounting.
“If you know Geoff, you know he’s a kind, loyal, and humble person who never asks for help. So now, we’re asking on his behalf,” Kennedy wrote.
As of Sunday afternoon, the campaign had raised more than $6,200 from 55 donations.
