UPDATE: Sayville grandmother’s killer dies in shootout with Massachusetts police, cops say

The man police say stabbed and killed a Sayville grandmother inside her home was killed by officers six days later, after he charged at them with a knife outside a small Massachusetts motel, authorities said on Thursday.

Suffolk Police homicide detectives determined Brandon Hampson, 55, on Sept. 3 murdered his ex-girlfriend, 62-year-old Rachel Frislid, 62, police said.

Detectives tracked down Hampson at the French King Restaurant and Motel in Erving, Massachusetts, and requested help from the Erving Police Department and state police, cops said.

The lcoal cops responded to the motel on Thursday and spotted Hampson outside the motel. When they approached him about 9:15 p.m., Hampson displayed a knife and charged at them, police said. He was shot by police and taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Frislid was found unconscious inside her Pearl Court home about 8:30 p.m. a week ago by a family member. Suffolk Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina announced Friday morning that she had been a victim of violence and that a murder investigation was underway.

Frislid owner Academy Tent Rentals and Preferred Promotions Ltd., based in Sayville and Bohemia, according to her LinkedIn page. She had two adult children.

Frislid was a widow; her husband, Donald J. Frislid Jr., who built Academy Tent Rentals and Preferred Promotions with her, died in 2016 at age 55, according to his obituary from Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home. She is survived by two adult children and a grandchild.
