Sayville’s Jack Coan and Wisconsin put up tough fight against No. 1 Ohio State

|

Jack Coan and Wisconsin made a valiant bid Saturday night to upset No. 1 Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship, but ultimately fell short.

Time after time in the first half, Coan with his feet and his arm, made big plays for Wisconsin (10-3) to keep the first downs coming and help lead the Badgers to a 21-7 halftime lead at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis.

But Ohio State (13-0) switched to a zone defense in the second half, pressured Coan, and the Badgers didn’t score again. The Buckeyes scored 27 unanswered points in the second half en route to a 34-21 victory.

The loss is No. 8 Wisconsin’s second this season to Ohio State. Six weeks ago, the Buckeyes took down Wisconsin 38-7.

Wisconsin is likely headed to the Rose Bowl; Ohio State will probably have the No. 1 seed in the four-team College Football Playoff.

For the game, Coan completed 17 of 33 passes for 232 yards. He ran for 20 yards on 7 carries.
