Sayville’s Jack Coan trains with San Francisco 49ers

|

If nothing else, Jack Coan is sure doing a lot of networking around the NFL these days.

This week, the Sayville High School product worked out with yet another team, the San Francisco 49ers. It’s the third team the strong-armed quarterback has trained with this spring, following the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks.

During 2022, he made the rounds too, making it through most of pre-season camp before being cut by the Indianapolis Colts, and then during the fall getting in-person looks from Miami, Las Vegas and Seattle.

Interestingly, the 49ers already have four quarterbacks on the team’s roster, including Trey Lance, Brock Purdy, former Jet, Sam Darnold, and recently signed veteran, Brandon Allen. So it’s unclear where Coan, 24, might fit in.

This spring, Coan turned some heads while playing for San Antonio in the XFL’s comeback season. He finished the season with 1,403 passing yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed 26 times for 108 yards.

Coan joined the Brahmas after being selected in the 2023 XFL Draft in November. He was impressive in college, playing three seasons for Wisconsin, and then his final season at Notre Dame in 2021.

With Notre Dame, he threw for more than 3,100 yards, with 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Irish went 11-2 and played in the Fiesta Bowl.
