Scenes from the big annual Long Island Puerto Rican-Hispanic Day Parade

|

Brentwood was awash in the red, white and blue of Puerto Rico on Sunday, as well as the Dominican Republic.

Also in the mix were the yellow blue, and red of the Colombia flag.

Let’s just say, Fifth Avenue was awash in color. And GLI was there to capture what is always a joyous day in the hamlet, highlighted by music, dance and cultural pride.

The 59th annual Long Island Puerto Rican-Hispanic Day Parade, hosted by Teatro Yerbabruja, stepped off around 11 a.m. and ran through the afternoon.

This year’s theme was “No Sueltes Tu Bandera, Unidos Somos Más” — “Don’t Let Go of Your Flag, United We Are Stronger.”

And Brentwood schools Superintendent Wanda Ortiz-Rivera was this year’s parade’s grand marshal.

The event draws revelers from across Long Island, not just Brentwood.
