SCPD announces anti-heroin benefit concert with ‘Big Shot’

Suffolk police brass announced Wednesday a benefit concert is planned for July 28 in Patchogue to help aid in the fight against heroin and opiate addiction in Suffolk County.

Mike DelGuidice & Big Shot, a Billy Joel tribute band, and Zofolk, a Led Zeplin tribute band, will perform at The Emporium at the Thursday night event that starts at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit Suffolk County Crime Stoppers, a program that offers rewards of up to $5,000 to people who were willing to offer anonymous information to police that led to an arrest, officials said.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Police Commissioner Timothy Sini, as well Big Shot frontman Michael DelGuidice got together at police headquarters in Yaphank on Wednesday to make the announcement.

Deaths in Suffolk County have jumped from 38 in 2010 to 108 in 2014, according to a Suffolk Times report.
