Services for Dominick Capizola, 73, of Sayville

Dominick Capizola, a Sayville grandfather who worked as a catering and banquet manager for more than five decades, died on Saturday, June 27. He was 73 years old.

A deeply spiritual man and an avid reader, Capizola was beloved for his playful sense of humor and an unwavering willingness to provide help and counsel to family and friends.

Funeral services for Capizola, a Bronx native who graduated from Deer Park High School, are today and tomorrow in the Sayville area.

Visitation is today, June 30, from 2-4:30 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Sayville.

Police said Capizola was killed early Sunday when a suspected drunk driver driving the wrong way on Sunrise Highway in Oakdale crashed into Capizola’s vehicle head-on. Capizola was driving home from work.

The other driver, 56-year-old Noel Pastora, was arrested and faces DWI charges. Additional charges are pending.

Capizola is survived by his wife Gina; his daughter and son-in-law, Elisabetta Capizola and Scott Cliff, and their son Marcello Dominick; his sisters Theresa Strazzulo and Lucille Fazio; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Adolfo and Anna Galeotafiore; and his nieces and nephews Raffaella, Johnny, Dino, Patsy, Natalie, Sonny, Christine and Robert.
