Services for Korean War Air Force veteran Francis DeMarrais, 92, of Oakdale

Francis J. DeMarrais, a Korean War veteran who raised five daughters with his wife of more than 65 years, died on Thursday, Jan. 27. He was 92.

For decades the head usher at St. Lawrence the Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Sayville, DeMarrais and his bride Cathy would have celebrated 66 years of marriage this spring, according to obituary information released by Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Homes in West Sayville.

The Air Force veteran, called “Frank” by friends and family, is also survived by the couple’s daughters, Mary, Theresa, Patricia, Elizabeth, and Catherine; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

“He had a very silly side to him which made everyone laugh,” his obituary reads. “He was loved and adored by so many.”

The Brooklyn-born DeMarrais enjoyed taking getaways to the mountains and “loved animals and enjoyed sports, westerns, history, and reading,” according to his obituary.

Funeral information

Visitation services for DeMarrais are Thursday, Feb. 3, from 4-8 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Homes’ West Sayville location, 245 Main St.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated for DeMarrais on Friday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence RC Church, 240 West Main St. in Sayville.
