Friends and relatives of longtime Bayport resident Monica A. LoVece will gather Friday at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in Bayport to celebrate the retired Spanish teacher’s life.

LoVece died suddenly on Sunday, Dec. 11. She was 66.

Visitation will take place at the funeral home, located at 683 Montauk Highway, from 6-9 p.m. A memorial service to honor LoVece is scheduled for 8 p.m.

A lifelong resident of Long Island, LoVece served as a Spanish teacher at Center Moriches High School for more than 30 years. She was raised in Dix Hills and graduated from Dix Hills High School, before earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Dowling College.

Former students posted heartfelt messages a tribute wall for her on Raynor & D’Andrea’s website.

“She’s one of the only people I’ve kept in touch with from CMHS, and she was always so proud to tell me about her growing family and how she was enjoying retirement,” Jill (Ranieri) Smith wrote, addressing LoVece’s loved ones. “My heart hurts knowing that you’ve lost her light. I know that it would come as no surprise to you, but she changed a lot of lives while she was here.”

LoVece is survived by her son, Tyler and his fiancé Lucy of Patchogue; three grandchildren, Kayleigh, Hunter and Mina; a nephew, Peter Hoelzle, who she raised like a son; and two daughters-in-law, Karin Bergerson and Alyssa Jackson. She was predeceased by her son Mark in 2021.
