ShopRite owners donate a whopping $80,000 to Long Island Cares

|

ShopRite is doing its part to help feed the hungry on Long Island.

The ownership groups from the grocery stores’ Babylon, Bay Shore, Patchogue, Hauppage and Massapequa locations teamed up to donate $80,000 to the food bank Long Island Cares.

The nonprofit, whose mission is to “Slay Hunger,” was presented with the hefty check at its volunteer night at The Harry Chapain Food Bank earlier this winter.

“ShopRite and many of their family store owners have always supported the work of the regional food bank, and understand the effects of food insecurity and hunger on Long Island,” said the Long Island Cares chief executive officer, Paule Pachter.

“This very generous grant from ShopRite will support many of the local food pantries that receive food from Long Island Cares to provide even more meals to those in need.”

The money was donated through ShopRite’s hunger-fighting initiative called ShopRite Partners in Caring, which supports emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, child care centers, battered women’s shelters, senior citizen programs, drug rehab centers, programs for the mentally and physically disabled, after-school programs and other organizations that aid those in need, according to ShopRite.
