Slow delivery: Retired Long Island postal worker collects big lottery prize a year after drawing

|

Hopefully she wasn’t this slow with the mail.

Retired postal worker Genine Plummer took nearly a year to claim a $1,000 A Week For Life prize she won playing New York Lottery’s CASH4LIFE.

The Islip woman purchased her winning ticket back in May 2022. But she didn’t realize she had one until New York Lottery put the word out in a news release in early May alerting players that the winning ticket was set to expire on May 26, 2023.

Plummer said the alert prompted her to check her tickets again, at which point she discovered her winning ticket.

“I’m just in shock with everything and amazed,” said the former U.S. Postal Service employee. “I am overwhelmed.”

Plummer earned her prize for matching the first five numbers drawn in the May 26, 2022, CASH4LIFE game. A CASH4LIFE second prize guarantees a minimum payout of $1,000,000 payable as a for-life annuity or a one-time lump sum at the election of the winner, according to New York Lottery.

The winning CASH4LIFE numbers drawn were: 03 -09-33-57-58 Cash Ball 01. Plummer purchased her winning ticket at ShopRite of Bayshore, located at 1905 Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore.

Plummer, who elected to get her prize in annual installments of $33,852 after required withholdings, advised other lottery players to carefully check their tickets.

“Keep playing as I did and check your tickets like I did, especially if you have many tickets on hand,” she said.
